Hunger For God

  • The name of Jesus will be famous among the nations.

“But [the time is coming when] the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” Habakkuk 2:14

“From the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of Hosts.”  Malachi 1:11

You and I are called to make Jesus famous by the power of the Holy Spirit.

There is a great need for laborers!  The harvest is ripe!  The price for lost souls has already been paid!

We have only one life to live!  We only live once!  We must live a full life just as Jesus did!  We must bring as much glory to God as a human can possibly bring to Him. We must hunger to live a full life aligned with the purposes of God, filled with the will of God, filled with God’s power to make Jesus known in our generation.

John’s Revelation of the Great White Throne: “I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and the books were opened.  Then another book was opened, which is the book of life.  And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.”  Revelation 20:12

“Our life down here is a dressing room for eternity.” Leonard Ravenhill

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”  Jeremiah 29:11-13

  • Your hunger for the presence of God will impact others! There is no limit to the impact that our seeking God will have on this lost generation.

“Apart from Me you can do nothing.”  We must find Him!  But when we find Him, His glory will come, His light will shine through us, the Kingdom of God will advance with power, the powers of darkness will be pushed back, the captives will be set free, a great harvest of souls will come, and Jesus will return!

I have come to start a fire on the earth and how I wish it was already kindled.”  Luke 12:49

Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”  John 20:21

“As Christ is, so also are we in this world.”  1 John 4:17

You are called to continue what Jesus has started in this world!  May we hunger to spread the fire of the gospel that Jesus has started. Generation after generation of followers of Jesus have passed on the fire of the gospel through hardships, persecutions and opposition.

You can start a fire wherever you live and wherever God will send you!

  • Fire begets Fire! Hunger begets hunger!

“Such is the generation of those who seek Him, who seek the face of the God of Jacob.”  Psalm 24:6

Hunger! Real hunger for God! Real answers come when we hunger for them!

We receive real treasures from God when we seek after them with faith and prayer.

God wants to bless us, but real treasures from God need to be sought after, deeply hungered for, with perseverance … until the victory comes.

King David

When David became King one of his first tasks was to BRING BACK THE PRESENCE OF GOD. “I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, until I find a place for the Lord, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.”  Psalm 132:4-5

One thing I have asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”  Psalm 27:4

King David raised up a Worship and  Prayer Movement: It began where he had put the Ark of the Covenant under a tent on Mt. Zion, and he employed 288 prophetic singers and 4000 musicians there.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”  Psalm 42:1

The word ‘panting’ means an audible cry; to breathe heavily; crave; ache for; yearn for; to be dying for… streams of water / after God!

Amos 9:11 / Acts 15:16-17 – God will raise up the tabernacle of David, repair its breaches, raise up its ruins, rebuild it as in the days of old, that the rest [remnant] of mankind may seek the Lord and all the Gentiles who are called by My name.”

This is an expression of worship and prayer that leads to all humanity seeking God.

Moses was hungry and desperate for God

Moses had experiences with God that most Christians cannot relate to. He encountered God more than anybody else up to that point in history. He first encountered God at the burning bush; he spent 40 days alone with God and did not eat or drink, but lived in the glory of God. A cloud would come down on Moses’s tent.  From afar, the Israelites watched him meet with God. God spoke to Moses face to face; he raised his staff as God told him to and saw the Red Sea split; he saw God’s miraculous power unlike anyone else. Moses had a deep hunger for a greater revelation of God, a hunger to experience God in a much more profound way than he had ever experienced before.

Moses’ heart cry:  “Show me your glory!”

“I will make all My goodness pass before you and will proclaim My name before you.”  Exodus 33:18-19

John Lake

“Hunger is the greatest persuader” – John G. Lake

God’s purposes come to pass when our heart and mind get the real God-cry, when the real God-prayer comes into our hearts and the real God-yearning gets hold of our nature.  Something is going to happen then.”  John G. Lake

“If I can pray for you for God to bless you with any gift, I pray that God blesses you with spiritual hunger – hunger for God.”  John G. Lake

Those who are hungry, seek what they hunger for!  Everybody in this life seeks after something!  We seek what we desire, what our hearts burn for! And we choose what we want to hunger for!

Blessed [truly happy] are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 The more we hunger for God, the happier we will be, the more satisfied we will be, the more blessed we will be. God answers every soul who hungers and thirsts for Him!

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.” John 7:37 Jesus’ burning desire for us brought Him to the Cross to give all of Himself so that He can have all of us.

“For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show his might on behalf of those whose heart is blameless toward him.”  2 Chronicles 16:9
